Lightup coding and other tips
On this page you can find handy tips which you can use when you’re programming your sketches or building your projects.
Add stickers to the various components
In Lightup there are 2 types of blocks:
- Blocks with a plus and negative side
- Blocks without a plus and negative side. I call them neutral.
In order to make the electricity flow, the plus and the negative sides of the block needs to be build in the right current. Lightup has build an app for this. The app takes a picture of your schema and checks if your schema works or not. Sadly this app only works correctly on a Iphone or I-pad and is in English. Since my children are Dutch and i only have an android tablet/phone i had to come up with a different solution to explain to them if the schema was correctly build.
My solution is the use of small stickers. I attached red stickers on the plus side of a block, green stickers on the negative sides and put a yellow sticker on the neutral blocks. With small explaination to my kids that the blocks needs to be connected on the side with the same color, they could easily correct their mistakes and make the schema work without the use of an app.
Create a clear sketch in codebender
If you’re creating a sketch and upload it to the microboard, it will stay there even if you power off the board. To start a new clean project it’s easy to clear the board first. To do this you can create a dummy sketch to clear the board. See example below.
